Academic Information for Elementary School

The Elementary School Program at PACE West provides services for children grades K - 5.

There are currently 5 elementary classrooms at PACE West.
The preferred ratio of students to staff is 5 students with a full time teacher and teacher assistant; although classes may sometimes reach a maximum of 7 students.

Students in the program are provided educational services in accordance with their IEPs. The Prince William County Public Schools curriculum is used throughout the program. Students participate in standardized testing (including VA SOL Testing) as outlined in their IEPs.

Remedial instruction is provided to students who are below grade level in reading and math. The SPOT Reading program is currently being used in the elementary program.

The focus of the classroom is to develop academic skills, while working with the child to develop appropriate behaviors and the social skills necessary to be successful in school and in the community. Teachers work closely with the School Psychologist and School Social Workers to implement programs within the classroom to assist students to function more successfully in the classroom environment.
