Academics - High School

The PACE West High School Program provides services to students in grades 9 - 12. There are currently six high school classrooms. The preferred ratio at high school is eight to ten students per class with a teacher and teacher assistant.

High school students have an established homeroom teacher who serves as their case manager. They change classes each period.

Students in the program are provided educational services in accordance with their IEPs. The Prince William County Public Schools curriculum is used throughout the program. Students participate in standardized testing (including VA SOL Testing) as outlined in their IEPs.

Students in high school may be earning a Standard Diploma, Modified Standard Diploma or a Special Diploma. Some students may be preparing to take the GED test.

The focus of the classroom is to develop academic skills, while working with the student to develop appropriate behaviors and the social skills necessary to be sucessful in school and in the community as well as being prepared to be productive members of our society when the complete their high school career. Teachers work closely with the School Psychologist and School Social Workers to implement programs within the classroom to assist students to function more successfully in the classroom environment.

Students also have the opportunity to work with a Transition Specialist, who is available in the building two days weekly to help students explore the world after high school. This may include job skills, career exploration and post graduate education.
