Behavior Management System
The PACE West program is designed to provide students with academic instruction while addressing their significant emotional and behavioral needs. This is accomplished by offering students strong academic programming and a school-wide behavior management system. The behavior management system consists of four components which are linked together to provide the structure and consistency needed for students to progress academically and behaviorally. The four components of the system are a Point System, a Level System, the ReOrientation Program and the Counseling Program.
POINT SYSTEM
The PACE West point system is based on students earning points during 10 time periods of the school day. During each time period, the student can earn a total of 10 points. Students may earn a total of 100 points daily, not including Bonus Points. Daily success is based on the number of points the student earns and the required number of points to have a successful day on their current level.
LEVEL SYSTEM
The PACE West level system is comprised of 5 levels. Students begin at PACE West on Orientation. They can then work through Level 1, Level 2, Level 3 and Honors Level.
ReORIENTATION PROGRAM
The ReOrientation Program provides students with a place within the building to go if they are having difficulty maintaining their behavior in class. Students may choose to go to ReOrientation, by requesting a time out, or may be sent to the ReOreintation room if they are disrupting the educational process. Time in the ReOrientation area varies, from 10 minutes to several hours. Students may be required to remain in the ReOrientation room for the remainder of the school day or to serve In School Suspension. Staff is available in the ReOrientation room to problem solve with students and help them regain control of their behaviors. There are specific requirements for completing the time in ReOrientation and returning to class.
COUNSELING
The counseling staff at PACE West includes a School Psychologist and School Social Workers. Students receive group counseling as a part of their program and individual counseling when outlined in their IEP or when needed. Crisis counseling is always available and counselors work closely with the staff in the ReOrientation room to provide counseling services to students who are having difficulty functioning appropriately in the classroom or school setting.
